Uniform Redesign

The Boston Red Sox is a professional baseball team based in Boston, Massachusetts. Founded in 1901, it is one the American League’s eight charter franchises. The name ‘Red Sox’ was chosen by the owner John T. Taylor, referring to the red sox that was part of the team uniform. The primary home uniform of the Boston Red Sox is white with red piping around the neck and down either side of the front buttons and “RED SOX” in red letters outlined in blue arched across the chest. Boston Red Sox tee shirts and solid red stockings were always part of their uniform at home.

Like most teams, they wear a different set of uniform when traveling. The new alternate road uniform is a combination of gray pants and blue jersey with “BOSTON” in red lettering outlined in white across the chest. Both the home and road alternate uniforms now feature new alternate “Hanging Sox” logo hats, while the traditional “B” cap is worn with the primary home and road uniforms. As part of the 2009 logo and uniform redesign, the Red Sox wore solid blue stockings and sweatshirts with their road uniforms during their first road trip, but switched back to red sweatshirts and stockings for their second road trip and the remainder of the season. Most players have abandoned stirrups for full socks.
