The Many Uses of Silk
Natural silk is produced by caterpillars. These are commercially produced in some Asian countries including China and Thailand. Processing of natural silk is complicated but they are much stronger when woven into fiber. Silk fabric is generally described as soft and smooth with a sheen that makes it attractive to women all over the world. They also drape very well making them a favorite among designers.
Silk has many uses. It is used in fashioning formal dresses, robes and kimonos. Because of the high absorbency quality of silk, they are favorite material for making a negligee, pajamas and silk sleepdress. Its low conductivity keeps warm air close to the skin during cold weather. It is also a cool piece of garment in warm weather.
