organic cotton clothing
Organic cotton is grown without the use of pesticides. It is also free of toxins like chlorine and formaldehyde, chemicals commonly used to whiten and finish cotton fabric. Aside from these attributes organic cotton clothing are also comfortable to wear because of their being soft to the touch. Being highly absorbent gives them a cool feel that adds to the comfort of the wearer.
Did you know that there is such a thing as color-grown cotton? This means that the cotton is naturally colored as a plant. There is no need to introduce dyes which sometimes lessens the integrity of cotton’s organic properties. The Incas used it in their textiles and other cultures in Peru, China, Egypt and Turkey also relied on this natural fiber. Khaki was first made in India from brown cotton. In the United States, slaves grew brown and green cotton in their own gardens since they were forbidden from growing white cotton that they might sell.
