Most kids at one point or another dream of becoming a policeman or a policewoman. It was probably a result of too many cop shows on TV. Kids learned early on that the cops were the good guys who went after the bad guys. Policemen were the law, they were cool and they were always the heroes. The phenomenon most likely began in the 70s when the TV show “CHiPS” became a hit. Larry Wilcox and Erik Estrada looked so good wearing their law enforcement clothing.

Law enforcement clothing is meant to give you a tactical edge. They were designed to command respect. It is meant to subdue the law breaker psychologically. One example is the shades that the policemen wear. Studies show that people get intimidated by policeman wearing shades. Perpetrators will often think twice before crossing a policeman.
