The cowboy hat is an important part of the cowboy’s attire. Modern cowboy hats are made from various materials. Most are made of leather but others are made of straw or felt. Fur-based felt cowboy hats have simple sweat bands on the inside to stabilize the fit of the hat. They can be manufactured in virtually any color but favorites are beige, brown and black.

What makes the cowboy hat elegant is the creasing on the crown and the slight rolling of the brim. We see this in the hats worn by movie stars in western movies. Remember John Wayne in True Grit? The modern cowboy hat remained basically the same in construction. They may not be as durable as when they were used to carry water but they definitely have their own place in western fashion.
